Bitnationrefers to the world’s first Decentralised Borderless Voluntary Nation(DBVN). The organization was officially launched by Susanne Tarkowski Tempelhof(the CEO and founder) in 2014. Upon its launch, it registered the world’s first blockchain marriage. Bitnation is offering a wide range of blockchain-based governance services including public notaries, world’s citizenship ID, marriages, land titles and birth certificate with a focus on creating a competitive worldwide marketplace for such services that would make central governments redundant.

In the present times, governments are expected to provide us almost everything that is ranging from education to energy infrastructure, food regulations to social security with the list of needed items growing day by day. According to ‘Nightwatchman State model’ championed by Robert Nozick; governments core purpose exclusively zeroes down to the protection of property that is to say the provision of security and jurisdiction. However, it should be noted that property is a broad term that not only refers to the property as of land, items etc. Property begins from ownership of yourself, your body, time, aspirations and so on.

DBVN’s core purpose

The core purpose of DBVN is to provide an all-encompassing set of services by identifying and aggregating the best technology and service providers currently available, then deliver it to the client in a comprehensive package.

DBVN Differs from a normal nation-state government in the following ways:

It’s decentralized

Decentralization refers to a process involving a redistribution or dispersing functions, powers, people or things away from a central authority. According to the Architect of DBVN, decentralization translates into both technological and human decentralization that is through striving for peer to peer technology, modular interfaces, API layers, forkable code which implies that every user can become its own node and transform the platform to their own preference.

Borderless

DBVN services are not limited to any specific geographical area, ethnicity or other categories of populations. For instance, there are no borders, no land boundaries, airports, coastlines. The company avails services to all areas, regardless of where it is located.

Voluntary

Being voluntary in nature, DBVNs are free of persecution, intimidation, reprisals and other forms of systematic violence. They compete in a free market where its customers who are the citizens of the platform voluntarily decide on which DBVNs they desire to use including options of utilizing several DBVNs or none at all or even if they so choose to create their own DBVN.

Nation

A nation refers to a large group of people who share a common language, culture, ethnicity, or history. In the case of DBVN, the people are connected through mutual interests and goals on top of their traditional commonalities such as Culture and language. Therefore, DBVN is a nation providing government services to its customers.
DBVN provides the tools for governance but does not impose them, nor does it impose them on any specific code of law or regulations.

Therefore, DBVN’s vision is to make the choice of governance service providers for individual users as easy as choosing to join social forums such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and so on. Users can opt for several of them or choose none. Users are also able to create their own DBVN through forking the Bitnation source code.

The Opportunity to become a bitnational

The organization also offers everyone interested the opportunity to become a Binational or, a world citizen. So far, there are over 1000 members of Bitnation from various countries. Estonia announced its partnership with the project in 2015 in order to transfer all of its notarial systems onto blockchain technology.

DBVN’s Grand Prix award at UNESCO’s Netexplo Forum

Bitnation was awarded with the Grand Prix award at UNESCO’s Netexplo Forum In May 2017 for its Refugee Emergency Response project, which started registering IDs on the Bitcoin Blockchain in September 2015.
This glowing award from a UN agency implies that the world governments at some point observe a place for blockchain-based platforms to assume certain functions of theirs. With time, Crypto-state projects Such as Bitnation project are most likely to end up claiming more functions of the world governments. In 2016, the Bitnation CEO Susanne Tarkowski Tempelhof gave an affirmation that there is need to outcompete national governments at their original core function of security and jurisdiction.

Pangea

Bitnation founded Pangea, which is a decentralized market for legal services where citizen members execute peer to peer agreements which can be created and executed seamlessly all over the world. The project seeks to abolish the most criminal part of our existing legacy systems borders.

Pangea’s ideology is that each citizen is able to create, participate or leave the nation they choose on their mobile device, which implies full freedom of choice about access to the various services while doing business and defining their conditions guided by parameters that are provided by the artificial intelligence, and most especially entering into binding agreements that are capable of resolving disputes with any person or organisation, anywhere, without having to face the high costs, delays, legislative incompatibilities and even the possible coercion of territorial jurisdictions.
